He told us many interesting legends about the Alhambra Palace, was very knowledgeable about its history, and was obviously very passionate about the area since he is from there. He took us through the whole complex but I particularly liked the Nasrid Palaces and the interesting facts he provided about the Moorish architecture. This is a must-visit if you’re in the area!
My husband and I travel a lot but we both agree that the Alhambra Palace is the most beautiful place we have ever visited. The columns and inscriptions on the walls are so detailed. We were also completely blown away by the Hall of the Abencerrajes. The place is in such good condition despite how old it is! Overall, it was an amazing tour!

EXPLORE THE ALHAMBRA PALACE
Start your Alhambra and Nasrid Palace tour by meeting your guide and set off to the Alhambra Palace. Because it used to be a fortress, the Palace is built at a strategic location overlooking the city of Granada which is a recipe for the best views. Being about 750 years old, the Palace is full of impressive courtyards you’ll get to explore. One of them is the Court of the Lions, one of the crucial points in the monument’s architecture. The court is surrounded by 124 marble columns with a fountain supported by 12 lions standing in the middle. It’s unknown what the lions symbolize, but theories range from the twelve horoscopes, the twelve tribes of Israel, or even simply power and authority.
DISCOVER THE NASRID PALACES
After the tour of the Alhambra, you’ll discover the Nasrid Palaces. Three main areas form the complex and your guide will lead you through all of them telling you about their history. You’ll explore Mexuar, where the king used to hold meetings with his council. The second one is Comares Palace, which was the king’s residence. The last one is the Palace of Lions surrounded by the Baths and the Court of the Myrtles which is 140 feet (43 meters) long and 74 feet (23 meters) wide with a large reflecting pool in the middle.
WALK THROUGH THE OLDEST PART OF ALHAMBRA
Next, the tour will move on to Alcazaba which is one of the oldest parts of the complex with the first historical mention of it dating back to the 9th century. The complex as it is today was built by Mohammed I who added walls around the previous castle and three new towers: The Broken Tower, the Keep, and the Watch Tower which is how the Alhambra became a real fortress.

Originally built in the 13th century, the Generalife residence is plain when compared to the rest of the Alhambra complex. This is because it served as a calm and relaxing place where kings would retreat during the summer and move away from the affairs of the palace. Legend of the Comares Tower and Christopher Columbus
There are many legends about the Alhambra and Nasrid Palace but one about its highest palace, the Comares Tower is especially interesting.
Legend has it that it was within the walls of this tower that Christopher Columbus successfully convinced Catholic Monarchs to back his expedition to the Indies in the west. This monumental decision ultimately resulted in the discovery of America in 1492. The legend also says that Queen Isabella offered her own jewelry to sponsor Christopher’s journey.
