Highly recommended!
If you are like me and don't know much about history and architecture, I highly recommend booking the Alhambra Guided Tour. The tour guide was excellent and shared with us many stories and legends about Alhambra. He spoke great English, which is my second language, but I managed to understand well enough. I was literally amazed by the Alhambra, but the part that blew me away the most was the Court of the Lions. Such symmetry and the intricate details of the lion statues that support the fountain in the middle left me speechless!
Well-organized tour!
Tour was well organized. We spent just the right amount of time at each stop. Generalife Garden was beautiful and the views from the Alcazaba got us great photos. As the tour guide took us from one part of the Alhambra complex to another, it was never overwhelming or boring. We didn't have to wait to get in either.

WALK THROUGH THE GENERALIFE GARDENS
The first stop on the Alhambra Guided Tour is the Generalife Gardens. The sultans of Granada built this palace and gardens to serve as a summer residence. There was an intricate water system made of channels and fountains that provided a cool and refreshing atmosphere during the hot months of the year. Your tour guide will lead you across the Patio de la Acequia, the most famous part of Generalife Gardens, and tell you all about this place.
SEE THE MOSQUE BATH IN THE ALHAMBRA
Next on your Alhambra Guided Tour is the Mosque Bath. Situated near the Patio de los Leones, the Mosque Bath holds a central place inside the Alhambra complex. This was a traditional hammam where the inhabitants of Alhambra could enjoy various rooms with various temperatures, from hot to cold. It was also a social hub where people came to socialize and relax among friends.
CLIMB THE ALCAZABA OF THE ALHAMBRA
Follow your tour guide to Alcazaba, the oldest part of the Alhambra complex. Alcazaba was built on a strategic location overlooking the city of Granada, the Darro River, and the Sierra Nevada mountain range. All the buildings in this area served a military purpose: the fortress and multiple watchtowers. If you wish, you may climb the watchtowers and soak in the breathtaking view of the surrounding area. Did you know that Alcazaba was the last stand of the last Emir of Granada before he was defeated by the Christian army in the famous Reconquista of 1492? You will hear many such intriguing details during your Alhambra Guided Tour.
DISCOVER THE PALACE OF CHARLES V
Another stop on your Alhambra Guided Tour is the Palace of Charles V, which was built in the 16th century. Emperor Charles V wanted to show the superiority of Christianity over Islam but also appreciated the architectural achievements of Alhambra. Therefore, he didn't want to destroy it but rather add something of his own. The Palace blends several building styles and serves as a bridge between medieval and Renaissance architecture. As you walk the corridors and open spaces of this incredible place, you will find out more about it from your knowledgeable tour guide.
VISIT THE NASRID PALACES
The last stop of the Alhambra Guided Tour are the Nasrid Palaces. These were built by the last Muslim rulers in Spain. Recognized for the beauty of their intricate architecture, it still amazes all who visit. This part of the Alhambra complex is made of several palaces: Mexuar, the Palace of Comares, and the Palace of Lions. Each has distinct features that reflect the height of Moorish Islamic culture in Andalusia.

Interesting facts about Alhambra
- Did you know that Alhambra is the only preserved Islamic medieval palace in Europe? Medieval Europeans were dazzled by its architecture, and although the Spanish Christian rulers banished the Muslims in the Reconquista of 1492, they left the Alhambra complex almost completely untouched.
- The taking of Alhambra and the discovery of the New World both happened in 1492. But did you know that Christofer Colombus came to Alhambra that very year? He came to ask King Ferdinand and Queen Isabelle to fund his journey across the Atlantic Ocean and the search for a new route to the Indies.
- The Alhambra complex is a testament to the influence of Moorish Islamic culture. While the rest of the European continent was experiencing the so-called Dark Ages of the early medieval period, this part of Spain was thriving in science (especially mathematics), literature, culture, commerce, and trade! As a prime example of this once-great culture, Alhambra has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984!
- The nighttime silence of the Alhambra is so powerful that some visitors say it feels like “the walls are whispering”. A night visit feels almost intimate, especially in the Nasrid Palaces, where soft light reveals carvings, arabesques, and poetry, while moonlight reflects in the pools. That’s why some visitors choose to complement their guided tour with Alhambra night tickets and return in the calm of evening, when quiet and shadows reveal what daylight often hides.
- Did you know that Alhambra was almost destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars? It was occupied by the French army in 1810-1812, who placed explosives in its buildings when they were forced to retreat. Some towers were destroyed in the event, but the Spanish forces managed to defuse most of the bombs.
